just wanted to drop in a quick complation of works in progress down in the woodshop
top top bottom: time so far doesn't include drawing up plans, which took varying times, based on whether or not there was good plans readily available (which usually was not the case)
-yuna's staff for a commission, the commissioner asked for it to be 5' 6", so its going to be a bit longer in the staff than it normally is, which would normally be about 4 feet overall). Sanding in little crevices is a pain. time so far:5 hours
-keyblade.... I've been dreading the day that someone asks me for one of these infernal things, i think a couple folks have asked, and I've somehow wiggled out of doing them. SO I was wanting to see how much of a bitch it actually IS to make one, and chose the Oathkeeper, since its one of the more involved ones in comparison to say, a kingdom key or something simpler...
the things got so many random pointy bits all over that runs across the grain, and would be prone to breakage if i made it out of one solid piece of wood. I segmented the points so the grain would run along the spokes and would be less inclined to break. Glued it together with 2 part epoxy resin (strong as hell glue!), and after the carvings done, i'm gonna reinforce the weaker parts. time so far: 8 hours approx.
Haseo's guns from .hack/something or other I think they're cool. So I'm making them. I don't think the energy whatevers are cool, so i'm not making those parts... unless this turns into a commish lol. Got the front end started, but they were a bitch because i had no router and my files were too damned big. My fiance got me a router attachment for my dremel for xmas, and i invested in a 45 degree angle bit (which only came in a friggin set ) and a mid sized set of files. because i had to do a lot of filing after the rough router cuts. time so far: 5 1/2 hours. for those two stupid little things. BAH
Marluxia's big pink flowery scythe the gal whos commissioning me said it emits flower petals. DEFINITELY not as manly as Zasalamel's scythe... but its growing on me... like a weedy scythe...
I'm making this lightweight and very sturdy, so its made from layers of plywood, foamcore and matboard. You can welt someone good with that finished pink segment lol. Its segmented so it'll break down for easy transport, and should weigh something around 4-5 pounds tops hopefully, by the time its completed time so far:10 hours. oy
NOT SHOWN- Kadaj's sword its a big pile of random parts at this moment. Very different in the construction, because this is the first time I've had to deal with a double bladed sword, and need to make sure they align properly, and the sheath can accommodate them correctly. gr. time so far:6 hours
for more information, any inquiries or stuff, check mah prop site props by fev!
When I started building my prop commissions site, this (and a couple other ones in these WIPsets) were started to build my folio a lil so there'd be more than like, 3 fully painted props in the site (the rest were natural wood swords and such)
When the site launched I wound up slammed with commissions, so these "example" props never got finished because of the other work (the keyblade, a sitar and a couple other things met the same fate )
This is amazing Fev! before I saw you stuff I wouldn't have beleived it possible to make weapons that complex with just WOOD!
If I had the money I'd love to commission you to help with the Drizzt costume I was planning on putting together. ... as it is, would you have any suggestions?
Okay, you know what fev? If I can't actually buy something from you, I'm at least gonna try and make it to one of the same cons as you so I can properly prostrate myself in front of you.
This stuff is, as the colloquialism goes, "THE SHIT"
I love these so far, especially the keyblade! I'm gonna have to make some soon myself, but I'm hoping to figure out how to make them out of cheaper materials than wood since I have no skill with it
